You look up and you’re 50! How the heck did that happen? You meant to get your financial house in order. You really did. But time, that rascal, got away from you. In the midst of working hard, raising kids, making a home, maybe taking care of parents, a few decades raced by, and a couple of items on that financial to-do list went unchecked. Ok…a LOT of things on that list. Now all of a sudden friends no older than you have started retiring, and you are up at night realizing that not only did your ship to Kick Back Island never come in, but you really don’t even know how bad or good things are in that financial house of yours.
TRIAGE time! Code blue! Stat!
Is all hope lost? Can you do anything at this point to avoid a “retirement” pushing a shopping cart depending on the kindness of strangers?
This blog is the documentation of a journey to that answer. This is the story of a couple “late to the party” of FIRE (financial independence, retire early). We may not have achieved the “E” part of the equation, but hot damn if we aren’t going to take massive action on our way to the “FIR!”
